Former Iowa guard Gabbie Marshall couldn't contain her excitement after her former teammate Caitlin Clark sizzled for 20 points and led the Indiana Fever to an 88-71 win over the Connecticut Sun in the WNBA Commissioner's Cup on Tuesday night.

Marshall, who played for five seasons with the Hawkeyes, wrote a post on her Instagram Stories, expressing her admiration for how Clark performed against the Sun despite the physical nature of the encounter.

"TURN ME TF UPPPP CC @jadagyamfi and I are LOVING this energy!!!," read Marshall's post, which was also posted on NCAA Noobita's X account.

Clark shot 6-of-12 from the field, including 4-of-6 from 3-pointers, and made all of her four free throws to spearhead the Fever's offense in a physical game that saw three ejections and six technical fouls.

The six-foot Iowa legend was poked in the eye in the third quarter by Sun guard Jacy Sheldon, and Marina Mabrey shoved Clark to the floor, leading to a mini-altercation. This resulted in Mabrey and Tina Charles getting a technical and Sheldon receiving a flagrant 1 foul.

The Indiana superstar, who was also assessed with a technical foul following her reaction to the eye poke, made three free throws after the incident to hand the Fever a 58-45 advantage and continued her offensive masterclass in the fourth period to secure their sixth win in 11 games.

Caitlin Clark and Jacy Sheldon were rivals in college

Caitlin Clark and Jacy Sheldon were rivals when they were playing in the Big Ten Conference. Clark was the top player for Iowa, while Sheldon was one of the key players for Ohio State.

The rivalry reached its peak in the 2023-24 season when Iowa and Ohio State were two of the top teams in the conference. Their clashes were highly sought after, and as the leaders of their respective squads, both tried to outdo each other.

In their first game on Jan. 21, 2024, Sheldon dropped 24 points, seven rebounds and three assists to help the Buckeyes withstand a 45-point explosion from Clark and won 100-92 in overtime.

Clark exacted revenge in their second regular season meeting on Mar. 3, scoring 35 points, six rebounds, nine assists and three steals to lead Iowa to a 93-83 victory over Ohio State. Sheldon finished with a team-high 24 points, two rebounds, nine assists and two steals.

Sheldon and Clark were picked in the first round of the 2024 WNBA draft and resumed their rivalry in the pro ranks.

Tuesday's shenanigans harmed the former Ohio State standout. She was ejected late in the game after she shoved Fever guard Sophie Cunningham, who committed a hard foul on Sheldon,. Cunningham and Lindsay Allen were also thrown out.

Sheldon finished with two points, two rebounds, three assists and three steals in 28 minutes for the Sun, who dropped to 2-9.
