Diebler's coaching journey began as a student assistant under Homer Drew at Valparaiso University and got promoted to the director of basketball operations just one year later. He was part of the coaching staff that helped Valparaiso to the regular-season championship in 2012.
Then in 2016, he joined Vanderbilt to serve as an assistant coach under former coach Bryce Drew. Diebler later transferred to Ohio State where he became one of the league's top assistant coaches and built an overall record of 21-10 in his first season.
