Kyle Smith, an American college basketball coach, was announced as the new head coach of the Stanford Cardinals basketball team in 2024. He played college basketball at the Hamilton College in New York where he helped them to a 26-1 record as a junior. Smith's coaching journey began at San Diego, where served as an assistant coach under Hank Egan and Brad Holland from 1992-2000. During his eight-year stint with the program, Smith led San Diego to the second-most wins in the school’s history from 1998-2000.

Following that he spent one year with the Air Force where he served as an offensive and recruiting coordinator and helped with player development and scouting. He arrived at St. Mary’s in 2001 and spent nine years with the program. Under Smith’s tutelage, the Gaels made three NCAA Tournament appearances. Smith earned his first head coaching role at Colombia where he put together a 101-82 overall mark and led them to their first 20-win season since 1969-70.

After six seasons, Smith moved to the University of San Fransico where he spent three years with the program and held a 63-40 overall record. His career with Washington State began in 2019 when he led the Cougars to their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2008 during the 2023-24 campaign. Last season, he engineered one of the best campaigns in the program’s history and was honored with the 2024 Pac-12 Coach of the Year award. After five illustrious seasons with Washington State, Smith decided to transfer to Stanford as its next men's head basketball coach.
