LSU star Flau'jae Johnson is a huge fan of tennis player Coco Gauff and has publicly shown her support for the young athlete. Johnson followed Gauff’s journey in the French Open and was thrilled when she won the title on Saturday.
At Stade Roland Garros, Coco Gauff defeated the world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka 2-1 to claim her first French Open title and her second Grand Slam title.
Following the defeat, Sabalenka, who has a reported net worth of $18 million according to Celebrity Net Worth, made some bold statements, claiming her conditions were terrible and that she played the worst tennis in a long time.
"I think it got more windy (after 4-1 lead). Also, I think I was overemotional," Sabalenka said, per an X post by Bleacher Report. "I think today I didn't really handle myself quite well mentally, I would say. So basically, that's it."
"I was just making unforced errors. I have to check the statistics. I think she won the match not because she played incredible; just because I made all of those mistakes from, if you look from the outside, kind of like from easy balls."
Flau’jae Johnson caught wind of the comments and seemingly took a dig at Sabalenka. The LSU hooper reposted Bleacher Report's post on X and added a GIF of Coco Gauff dancing.
With the win, Gauff became the first U.S. player to win the French Open since Serena Williams did it a decade ago.
Flau'jae Johnson calls for retirement from coaching after losing to JuJu Watkins at Next Up 5s
For the second year in a row, Flau'jae Johnson and her team lost in the Overtime Select's Next Up 5s tournament to JuJu Watkins. Last year, Johnson's team had lost to former UConn star Paige Bueckers' squad.
After the game, the 5-foot-10 guard joined an Instagram live session and humorously stated that she was retiring from coaching.
"I think I'm retiring from (Overtime basketball) coaching, but shoutout to my squad. They played really hard. I still feel like I had the best player on the floor ... I gave my all. I gave my best," she said.
Flau'jae Johnson also criticized several blunders made by the match official, which she believes cost them the game.
