Duke freshman Cooper Flagg's twin brother, Ace Flagg, is also a basketball player. After playing at Montverde Academy last season, he transferred to Greensboro Day School for his final year of high school basketball.
No. 1 recruit Cooper Flagg has two brothers. His older brother, Hunter, played for Nokomis High School. Cooper also played at Nokomis with his brother Ace, and they later transferred from Nokomis to Montverde Academy.
On Tuesday, basketball insider Adam Zagoria tweeted that the Newport, Maine, native has left Montverde to join Greensboro in North Carolina.
"Ace Flagg, Cooper's twin brother, is transferring to Greensboro Day School (NC) from Montverde Academy basketball, his mom confirmed to me. Ace played for Brian Scalabrine’s White Mamba team on the AAU circuit," Zagoria wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Ace Flagg, a Class of 2025 forward, averaged 2.6 points and 1.3 rebounds in 27 games at Montverde in 2023-24. His brother Cooper was also initially classified in the 2025 recruiting class but during the last summer, he reclassified to the class of 2024.
Besides, Ace has received scholarships from several Division I schools, such as George Washington, Maine, West Virginia, Saint Joseph’s and Florida Gulf Coast. The 6-foot-7 athlete has a similar build and playing style to Cooper.
Montverde Academy shared a farewell post for Ace on Instagram following his exit.
"We wish the best of luck to 2-year varsity member Ace Flagg on his next stop at Greensboro Day in North Carolina ... It has been a pleasure to watch your growth and remarkable improvement, and your MVA family wishes you nothing but the best moving forward."
Ace Flagg will play under coach Freddy Johnson at Greensboro
Ace Flagg, who won the national championship last season with MVA, will be playing for veteran high school basketball coach Freddy Johnson at Greensboro.
"Ace really wants to maximize his last year of high school basketball playing in an environment that will help him grow, but also challenge him day in and day out in his pursuit to play Division I basketball,” Flagg’s personal trainer, Matt MacKenzie, said.
Johnson has been with the Greensboro Bengals for 48 seasons and was honored by the Naismith National Basketball Hall of Fame in 2020. He holds the seventh-most all-time wins as an American high school boys' basketball coach, boasting an overall record of 1,190-328. Under his coaching, Greensboro won 11 NCISAA 4A State Championships and one NCISAA 3A State Championship.
