On Sunday, OTE's Rode Wave Elite shared a video on Instagram showing Kinney and Johnson dancing on a TikTok trend. They have reunited for the USA training camp. Another video in Overtime gave a glimpse into their friendship as they talk and vibe to the "6-7" trend Kinney does quite often.

As teammates, Jasper Johnson and Taylen Kinney formed one of the most productive backcourts at Overtime Elite for Rod Wave Elite. Johnson averaged 20.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 1.8 steals per game, shooting 49.7% from the field and 36.3% from three. He also set the OTE single-game assist record with 14 and recorded five double-doubles.

Meanwhile, Kinney averaged 20.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 2.3 steals per game on 55.6% shooting. Both guards were named to the All-OTE First Team. They led RWE with consistent 20+ point games.

At the 2025 USA Basketball U19 Training Camp in Colorado Springs, Jasper Johnson and Taylen Kinney are among 32 elite prospects competing for a spot on the 12-man roster for the FIBA U19 World Cup. Among other names are Tyran Stokes (No. 1 in 2026), Christian Collins, Malachi Moreno, AJ Dybantsa, Mikel Brown Jr. and Morez Johnson. Finalists will be named on June 16, with the final roster set by June 21.

Johnson is a gold medalist from the 2024 FIBA AmeriCup. He's drawing attention for his quick shooting as he trains with Kentucky coach Mark Pope, who is serving as a court coach.

Mark Pope calls Jasper Johnson a “Superstar” ahead of Kentucky debut

Kentucky coach Mark Pope praised incoming 5-star recruit Jasper Johnson as he arrived in Lexington, calling him “a superstar.”

"Listen, I think Jasper Johnson is a superstar," Pope said. “I expect him to come in here and be great … there is a learning curve … but Jasper has got a really incredible skill set.”

Highlighting Johnson’s defensive upside, Pope added:

“He’s got a crafty, slippery nature… an ability to get skinny and do things defensively.”

He also said that Johnson’s calm nature is an asset.

"He needs to come in here and be great. That’s what he wants to do, that’s what we want from him,” Pope said.

Johnson is set to lead the 2025 recruiting class for the Wildcats.
