San Diego State vs New Mexico Prediction, Odds and Picks - Jan. 13  | College Basketball Season 2023-24

Long Beach State v San Diego State
San Diego State will meet New Mexico next

San Diego State vs New Mexico will feature a battle of ranked and unranked squads that might look like it goes one way, but things could play out quite differently come game day.

The 19th-ranked Aztecs (14-2) are first in the Mountain West Division at the time of this writing. They're also in the middle of a seven-game winning streak, which they will put on the line against the Lobos' equally dangerous squad (13-3 on the year).

Fans should remember that New Mexico gave San Diego State numerous troubles last year, including snapping the Aztecs' six-game winning streak to start the 2022-2023 season.

It's safe to say that the Aztecs should not take the Lobos lightly at all. And thus, this should make for an extremely exciting matchup.

College Basketball Bets Today: San Diego State vs New Mexico betting odds, lines and over/under

Having lost two of their last three games (including a loss in their most recent clash against UNLV in Las Vegas), the New Mexico Lobos should be expected to play with chips on their shoulders. That's because, before their slowdown, they were on a blistering 12-1 start in non-conference play.

Perhaps the most important story here is that New Mexico is bringing back two players who torched San Diego State the most last year: Jaelen House and Jamal Mashburn Jr.

On the road in San Diego, House scored 29 points, while Mashburn Jr. came in close with 22 markers. And in their home game versus the Aztecs, the pair combined for 35 points—a game they only lost at the buzzer to a Lamont Butler last-second three.

Odds:

San Diego State Aztecs: +2.5 (-105)

New Mexico Lobos: -2.5 (-115)

Over/Under:

Over: 150.5 (-110)

Under: 150.5 (-110)

San Diego State vs New Mexico Prediction

Based on the numbers alone, one would be tempted to award this game to New Mexico. They are the better scoring club (ranked 34th at 82.3 PPG) and rebounding squad (ranked 50th at 39.8 RPG). However, they are not the best when it comes to defense, allowing 68.3 PPG (ranked 107th).

If San Diego State's offense can at least take advantage of the Lobos' subpar defense, then they have an excellent chance at pulling off the win.

Their offensive firepower is led by Jaedon LeDee, who averages 22 PPG on an excellent 57.4% shooting from the field. LeDee is coming off a big 31-point performance against San Jose State, and he is due for another great game against a mediocre defense.

Fans should expect the Aztecs to not have much trouble scoring against New Mexico, but the Lobos will have enough firepower to match SDSU anew. So things could still be close, despite the numbers.
