The Texas A&M Aggies were given a boost by quarterback Marcel Reed during their thrilling Week 9 38-23 win against the LSU Tigers to cement themselves as the No. 1 team in the Southeastern Conference. Things, however, didn't go as planned for the quarterback who took the starting job from Conner Weigman against the South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday.
The Aggies were blown out 44-20 by the Gamecocks in one of the biggest shocks of Week 10 of college football action. Reed went 18-of-28 for 206 yards resulting in one touchdown and one interception.
During his postgame conference, Reed revealed when he was told that he would be the starting quarterback over Conner Weigman.

“He (Elko) told me Thursday afternoon after practice," Reed said. “I don’t know what it’s going to be moving forward.”
ABC reporter Molly McGrath said that Texas A&M coach Mike Elko told her on Saturday that Reed was now the Aggies QB1 while Conner Weigman would be the backup.
“Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko told us he decided on Sunday that Marcel Reed is their starting quarterback moving forward and Conner Weigman is now their backup quarterback,” McGrath said. “There’s no plan to play Weigman here tonight. Of course, this Aggies team believes in Marcel Reed.
“Their running back, Le’Veon Moss, told us his composure and his playmaking ability really won over this team, saying, ‘Every time he steps onto the field, something good happens. He’s an underrated thrower, his running ability opens up more holes for our running backs to make plays.’ I am told nothing phases him.”
Marcel Reed praised by Nick Saban
Marcel Reed has been getting praise from some high places, and ahead of the game against the South Carolina Gamecocks, during a segment of ESPN's "College GameDay" on Saturday, retired coach Nick Saban broke down what made the Aggies quarterback so special.
"He feels the pressure, and he's gonna make a 31-yard run out of this," Nick Saban said. "This is so frustrating for you on defense whether you're playing zone or man when you have a quarterback that can take off running and break you down like that. The thing that impressed me most in the Florida game was the first three third downs of the game.
"We're talking about this guy being a runner. He converts all three third downs. This guy can pass the ball."
Texas A&M fans will once again get to see their team's new-look offense led by Marcel Reed on Nov. 16 in Week 12 of college football action against the New Mexico State Aggies as Mike Elko's team holds on to the hope of appearing in the Southeastern Conference championship game and possibly the College Football Playoff.
