Perhaps the most famous supporter of the Texas Longhorns is actor Matthew McConaughey who regularly attends games. Ahead of the Longhorns' Week 14 clash against the Texas A&M Aggies, the actor highlighted the difference between previous Longhorns team as compared to the 2024 squad.

"I don't have many affiliations," McConaughey said. "I got God, I got my family, I got America and I got Texas and I got the Longhorns you know. So, this is one of those things that's non-negotiable for me wherever I go. The ambience of the whole team on both sides was different today than it was when I was here last year and even the year before.
"No one needed a kickstart here today. So the energy was good. It is exciting times but it's time to turn the page and I think the page is being turned. It's time"

Matthew McConaughey is a Texas alumnus who graduated in Radio, TV and Film in 1993. McConaughey has been a professor of practice at the institution since 2015 and was awarded the title of "Minister of Culture" in 2019.

Matthew McConaughey has been an ever-present for Texas

Matthew McConaughey has been an ever-present for the big Texas Longhorns games this season. Before the Longhorns beat the Michigan Wolverines 31-12 in Ann Arbor in Week 2, McConaughey was involved in a dramatic standoff with Michigan great Charles Woodson on the field at the Big House before kickoff to promote the game.

In addition, he appeared in a clip played on the set of FOX's "Big Noon Kickoff" where he had a hilarious message for Michigan fan Derek Jeter.

"Don't know if I'm gonna make it there to be live on your show but I'm hopping on a train, then I'm hopping on a boat then I'm rowing in a canoe then I'm jogging the last eighteen miles and I'll be there by game time," Matthew McConaughey said. "Jeter, I hope it's gonna be a long day for you Big Blue, coming in hot, hook 'em," the actor said.

Despite being well-liked by Texas fans, McConaughey called out Longhorns nation on X earlier in the season after they threw bottles on the field due to a controversial call by the officials during the Longhorns' 30-15 home loss to coach Kirby Smart's Georgia Bulldogs in Week 9.

"First off, you were electric Saturday night when we hosted Georgia. Bravo. Let's continue to bring it. Even though our Horns didn't get the W, you created a measurable home-field advantage," tweeted Matthew McConaughey.
"But let's get real about the bottle bombing the field glitch we had. Not cool. Bogey move. Yeah, that call was BS, but we're better than that. Longhorn Nation knows how to show up, show out like no other, and still keep our class. So, going forward, let's clean that kind of BS up and leave that behind us for good. We have to shake hands on that."

Matthew McConaughey has liked the direction that coach Steve Sarkisian has steered Texas since he took over as coach and will be delighted with the Longhorns on the verge of making the SEC championship game in their inaugural season in the conference.
