Colorado State Rams wide receiver Tory Horton registered 24 yards on two receptions, in addition to a 15-yard punt return in the 28-9 loss to the Colorado Buffaloes, but he departed the game in the second half due to an injury. Horton was at the center of an explosive interview before facing off against the Buffs.

Horton had a groin injury during Colorado State's game against the Northern Colorado Bears on Sept 7, but he decided to power through and play in Saturday's game.

During his weekly news conference, Colorado State coach Jay Norvell revealed that the wide receiver would likely be sidelined for the Week 4 clash against the UTEP Miners.

"I'd be surprised if Tory plays this week," Jay Norvell said. "I don't believe Tory will play and probably shouldn't have played last week. I've been around the kid a long time. He's made of the right stuff. I knew if he could play, he would. I probably should have held him. It wasn't his night to play."

Tory Horton being injured will mean that Norvell gets to dip into the Rams' depth chart and give opportunities to fellow receivers Jamari Person, Donovan Ollie and Armani Winfield.

Tory Horton's jabs at Colorado backfire

Last year when Tory Horton's Colorado State Rams met the Colorado Buffaloes, the media hype around Deion Sander's team was at an all-time high and the barbs between the Buffs and Rams coaches were flying around.

The game ended up being closer than projected with the Buffaloes winning 43-35 in double overtime. Before the 2024 game, Tory Horton had a warning for the Rams' Rocky Mountain rivals in an interview with reporters before the game.

“We owe them [Colorado] one,” Horton said. “And that’s something that’s been sitting on everybody’s mind since we came back from break. We owe them one and we walked away from that game as we kind of left it all on the field. I don’t feel like we left it all on the field, because we should have murdered them guys and they came out with that attitude as they were on top of the world, and this ain’t no Cinderella story. We’re coming for revenge.”

The game did not go as planned for the Rams, the Colorado Buffaloes were comfortable 28-9 winners with Tory Horton leaving the game injured in the second half.
