Colorado Buffaloes' two-way star Travis Hunter was in sizzling form again as he helped coach Deion Sander's team to a dominant 28-9 win against Rocky Mountain rivals, the Colorado State Rams in Week 2 of college football action. Hunter registered 100 yards on 13 receptions resulting in two touchdowns and five tackles, a pass deflection and an interception on defense.
This season, Hunter has earned big reviews from fans after tallying 342 yards on 30 receptions resulting in five touchdowns on the offensive end while adding one interception and 11 tackles on the defensive end.
During an episode of "The Herd," Fox Sports analyst Joel Klatt tabbed Hunter for the Heisman Trophy urging fans to consider him when the time for voting comes.
“Travis Hunter – who’s, by the way, fabulous,” said Klatt. “If you were voting for The Heisman Trophy, you’d probably have to vote for him.”
It was not the first time that the Fox Sports analyst broke down the case for Hunter's Heisman chances. During an episode of the "Joel Klatt Show" earlier in the week, the analyst highlighted the unique skills of Colorado's two-way star in the modern game.
“Travis Hunter probably belongs in New York. I know it’s only three games but if he continues this at all? Like, at all, a percentage of what he’s doing? He belongs in New York,” said Klatt. “We’re getting to see something we’ve never seen in college football, at least in the modern era. We’ve seen some great players that can play both ways.
"Maybe they’ll roll out there, maybe return a punt here or there. Not a guy like this. Not a guy that is clearly a guy that could win the Biletnikoff Award and the Thorpe.”
Travis Hunter labeled the 'Shohei Ohtani' of football
The vocal Travis Hunter has elevated his game this season and has been incredible on both sides of the ball. In the Colorado Buffaloes' 28-9 win against the Colorado State Rams, he played 123 out of 138 snaps and is currently averaging 129 snaps per game.
According to Boulder Daily, he has tallied 388 snaps this season which is the most in the nation leading to him getting praise from both fans and analysts alike for his excellence on both sides of the ball.
Hunter was even compared to MLB star Shohei Ohtani by analyst Bart Scott during an episode of ESPN's "First Take."
"I've never seen anything like Travis Hunter," Bart said. "To me, he is the Shohei Ohtani of college football. We have never seen anything like this. This dude is like a marathon runner. He plays the whole game. We haven't seen anything like this. The Heisman is his award to lose. He's that special. For me, he is the No.1 pick."
Next up for the Buffs is a clash against Big 12 opponents, the Baylor Bears and another opportunity for Travis Hunter to further his Heisman Trophy chances.
