Rebel Ralston is a fictional character from the Marvel Comics. Besides Rebel, the character also goes by the name Robert Ralston. Rebel or Robert Ralston first appeared in the first edition of Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos back in May 1963. Jack Kirby and Stan Lee created the comic book series. The series then had a successful 18-year run before it stopped publication.

Rebel Ralston was born in Kentucky and was the founding member of the Howling Commandos. He even fought during World War II while he was a part of the team. He also invented the scream that was part of the code of conduct for the community. The "Wahoo!" battle cry that the howlers led out during altercations came from the mind of Rebel Ralston.

What were some of Rebel Ralston's affiliations in the Marvel Comics?

As mentioned previously, Rebel Ralston was the founding member of the original Howling Commandos. While in the group, he played a crucial part in World War II. Following this, he also later co-founded the V-Battalion and the Penance Council. Later on, in the Marvel Comics, he became the Texas Senator.

His affiliations were not limited to just these. He also joined the newly reformed S.H.I.E.L.D. later in the comics and assumed the position of Chair of the Executive Oversight Committee.

Is Rebel Ralston alive?

No, Rebel Ralston from the Marvel Comics is not alive. The beloved character lost his life in an altercation between S.H.I.E.L.D and A.I.M representatives. After shooting at Yelena Belova during the brawl, Belova severely injured Ralston, killing him in the process. His death occurred in Volume 2, edition 3 of Secret Avengers released in April 2013.

What does S.H.I.E.L.D. stand for?

S.H.I.E.L.D. is the short form for Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division. It is an organization that protects Earth's inhabitants from antagonistic powers. Marvel mentions the same thing and adds:

"S.H.I.E.L.D. is an espionage and security organization that defends Earth and its people from groups that pose advanced technological—and sometimes supernatural or extraterrestrial—threats."

Among the other things pointed out by the company, is the fact about their authority and whom they assist. S.H.I.E.L.D. mainly works at the discretion of the United Nations but their nature of authority may change depending on the circumstances. Talking about the same, Marvel mentions:

"The organization typically operates under the United Nations’ authority, but is also referred to as a U.S. government-sanctioned entity. S.H.I.E.L.D. works with other government agencies, and assists groups like the Avengers, X-Men, and the Fantastic Four on various missions. While its operations are primarily clandestine, the organization is known to the public."
