Mumbai Indians are one of the most reputed franchises in the cash-rich league. They are the first ever team to throne the Crown for the three times.

In their 11-year campaign, the men in blue have played 100+ players to wear the prestigious blue shirt. From the first skipper, Sachin Tendulkar to most successful captain Rohit Sharma, plenty of global stars have enrobed the Mumbai Indians neck shirt but only a few of them have managed to hold their seat in the Mumbai bus all the way.

Despite having many T20 stars in their setup, they failed to get going with some famous International stalwarts.

While most of the MI devotees would know that Robin Uthappa, Manish Pandey, Alex Hales, Herschelle Gibbs were once a part of this bay city franchise yet we have some more surprise picks that still gives you a wonderment when you come to know that they represented the Paltans in the past.

#10 Ajinkya Rahane (2008-10)

The present captain of Rajasthan Royals played for MI in first three seasons of IPL. He was not considered as a prime opening batsman for Mumbai Indians because of the Sachin Tendulkar and some seasonal blistering Overseas batsmen.

He played 15 innings for Mumbai Indians and have scored 231 runs at a moderate average of 26.21 with a Strike rate of 100.61. In an important match, He made 56 off 34 balls against their arch-rivals CSK with five fours and three sixes. That was his only notable innings off him for the men in blue

In 2011 he was bought by the defunct Deccan Chargers for the hefty sum of $300,000. From then on the Left-handed batsman never looked back as he made his debut for India in 2013 has played 30 tests, 105 ODIs and 40 T20Is for his nation. Also, his second IPL side went onto claim the trophy in 2015.

He is the youngest batsman to score a test century when he scored a century in 2001 at the age of 17. He was Bangladesh's cricketing icon till 2014.

The Australian T20 specialist signed by Mumbai Indians back in 2015, it was his 5th franchise in the cash-rich league. In 2015, Mumbai was in desperate to have one blistering opener in their side.

As a result, they went for a bidding war with Delhi Daredevils which they won by paying Rs.3.2Cr for the blistering right-handed opener.

He played only three matches for Mumbai Indians before suffering from the hamstring injury which forced himself to rule out from the 2015 season. In that three matches, he scored just 23 runs at 11.50 - never justified his price tag.

His injury drove himself out of the session and Mumbai was forced to replace another Australian Benn Hilfenhaus for the rest of the league.

The next season, Finch was also dropped under the hammer by the Mumbai Indians. He was bought by Gujarat and KXIP in 2016 and 2018 respectively.

The Haryana born leggie came into limelight in the Cooch Behar Trophy in 2009 where picked up 34 wickets to end as the highest wicket-taker in the highly rated juvenile tournament in India.

This performance earned him his first class cap in 2009 for Haryana+-. Two years later he was signed by the men in blue but he has had to wait for two years to make his IPL debut. His one and only assignment in IPL for Mumbai Indians came in 2013 against KKR.

He was not up to the mark as he went wicketless in his solitary match against KKR conceding 34 from four overs.

However, it was his performance in the Champions League T20 final of 2013 that made his way into the Bangalore franchise. Chahal took two for nine runs in just three overs in the final against RCB, guiding Mumbai Indians to victory, following this he was roped in by his current franchise at his base price of 10 lakh.

In 2012, Mumbai Indians were in hunger to grab some young talents in the auctions, as a result, they added five uncapped players in their side. Kuldeep was one of them and he was the only one equipped with wrist spinning option.

He earned his call-up to the Mumbai nets because of his all-round performance in Cooch Behar Trophy in 2012. He scalped six wickets and scored a half-century in the knock out stage in the under-19 tournament.

However, Mumbai side never has given him a chance to showcase his arsenal of tweaks. He used to be a net bowler in the Mumbai camp until 2014.

He was picked up by Gambhir led KKR in 2014, where he has had to wait for two years to make his IPL debut.

Now he is an integral member of the Indian side and also he has replaced veteran spinner Ashwin in the limited overs format.

He took 23 wickets in 16 games he played in that session to hold the purple cap of the IPL that held in South Africa.

Later Hyderabad made a blunder to leave him under the hammer in 2011 where Kochi tuskers took him in the auctions for a hefty amount of $ 475,000. Termination of KTK for "breaching its terms of agreement" with BCCI led KTK's players to go under the hammer in 2012, as a result, The Uttar Pradesh pacer was brought by Mumbai Indians for $600,000.

It was his third franchise, he played 11 matches here taking 10 wickets and ended up being fourth highest wicket-taker for his side. He was left out of the Mumbai set up in the following session of IPL, played various franchises like RCB, RPSG - he went unsold in 2018 IPL.

He was not able to showcase his talent as there were the veterans Harbhajan Singh and Pragyan Ojha in the Mumbai Indians side. He was often sent as a substitute fielder during his tenure with Mumbai Indians.

Finally, he has had to leave Mumbai in 2014 without being played a game for that side. Kings XI welcomed him with a red-carpet in 2014 also retained him in the mega-auction held earlier this year for a hefty amount of Rs. 12 Crore.

He has played 68 games in IPL and has scored 686 runs and scalped 68 wickets in his name.

Southafrica born Kiwi opener made his IPL debut under the colours of blue. He was bought by Mumbai Indians in 2015 IPL auction at his base price.

In fact, he was not given a chance to represent in the three-time champions as Mumbai as it was fully packed in the top order with the likes of Aaron Finch, Lendl Simmons. Eventually, He was released from the side ahead of the 2016 IPL auctions.

Following this, Gambhir led KKR picked the blistering left-handed batsman for a paltry sum. Here he got four games to play that he scored just 30 runs in his name that caused his eviction from the KKR side in 2017. Now he is with DD franchise, bought at the price of Rs. 1.9Cr.

Hazlewood was bought by the Mumbai Indians back in 2014 for just Rs. 50 Lakh. He was with Mumbai set-up in his first season of IPL without being played a single game. Because of the presence of Stalwart Malinga who was then overseas star for Mumbai set-up Josh's time was quite difficult to get a game to play.

In 2015 Mumbai franchise considered Hazlewood as a prime bowling option for that they retained him before the auction. But he had other ideas, he chose Country over Cash-rich league.

He pulled himself out of IPL to keep his mind and body fit for the Ashes supposed to play in the second half of 2015. He went unsold in 2018 IPL auction because of his heavy his base price - 2Cr.
