Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara had a very good outing on day one of the fifth round

Indian opener Murali Vijay, who joined Tamil Nadu hours before their match against Odisha after the Indian team management asked him to play Ranji Trophy ahead of the upcoming India-Sri Lanka series, scored a brilliant century in Cuttack and took his team to a decent position at the end of day one. Vijay's 140, along with N Jagadeesan's 88 helped TN post 292/3 when the stumps were drawn.

Playing their 500th Ranji Trophy match, Mumbai were bundled out for just 171 in the first innings against Baroda. Atit Sheth was the wrecker-in-chief as he claimed 5/50 and was well backed by LI Meriwala, who ended with figures of 5/52. Prithvi Shaw, who turned 18 today, and Indian Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane had a rare failure as both the batsmen got out for a duck. At the close of play, Baroda were 63/1, trailing Mumbai by 108 runs.

Karnataka's Mayank Agarwal became the eighth Indian to score 300 and 100 in successive innings. The right-hander remained unbeaten on 169 when the day came to an end with Karnataka piling up 348/4 against Delhi.

Suresh Raina failed for the seventh consecutive time this season as he got out for just six runs against Assam. But, centuries from the lower middle-order batsmen Upendra Yadav and Saurabh Kumar took Uttar Pradesh to a decent total of 349 in the first innings.

Along with Vijay, his fellow Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara scored yet another century for Saurashtra while Karnataka's KL Rahul failed in the first innings against Delhi.
