Cricket life was never easy for Ambati Rayudu. He constantly changed his Ranji team which meant that he wasn't in harmony with the team management. His Indian career could have been over before it started when he decided to play in the Indian Cricket League. He was awed by the opportunity to play alongside foreign stars in front of a television audience, but it resulted in a clash with the BCCI's directives.

In 2009, his career received a fresh life when he accepted the BCCI's amnesty offer and played in the IPL. Due to his uneven career, he could just play 47 ODIs but he averages about 49 in the ODIs. Rayudu was part of India's squad in the 2015 World Cup but did not get a game. Everyone thought that he was close to retirement. His career again took a big turn in 2018 IPL. He batted fluently at all the positions. His runs helped his franchise CSK to lift another IPL title.

Rayudu is part of India's squad now. He needs to bat responsibly at number four if he wants to fulfill his World Cup dream. He also needs to become a match winner for the team if he wants to play in the final playing XI.
