Aakash Chopra earned a spot in the Indian Test team as an opener because of his impressive domestic performance in the year 2003. Chopra impressed everyone in his debut game against the New Zealand by scoring 73 runs in the match. He scored two consecutive half centuries in the very next game against a solid Kiwi bowling attacking, accumulating 112 runs in the game. His phenomenal performances earned him a place in the Indian squad for the Australian tour of 2003. However, Chopra could not score against the strong Australian bowling attack, which induced huge criticism against him.

In the year 2004, Chopra played 9 Test innings for India, scoring merely 113 runs at an awful average of 13.

A string of low scores pushed Chopra out of the Indian Test squad and he failed to make a comeback in the side. In his Test career which lasted for 2 years Chopra managed to score only a couple of half centuries.
