When Sri Lanka convincingly defeated India in the first ODI, Rohit Sharma's first match as captain turned out to be nightmare. In the second ODI, Rohit was under huge pressure but he led from the front with a blazing double century and eventually won the match.

Since then India never looked back and stamped their authority by wining the One-Day and T20 series. Rohit's batting statistics under captaincy looked more impressive, in which he scored 217 runs in 3 ODI matches at an average of 108.50, and 162 runs in 3 T20I matches at an average of 54. He was the leading run-scorer in both the ODI and T20 series.

The ability to fight back from any situation and to stay calm in pressure situations are the main highlights of Rohit's captaincy. He is also impressive with his field placement and bowling changes.

With more and more games, Rohit will just get better with every match as captain, and India would appreciate an extra option for the team in case Kohli is unable to take the field.
