Manodara is the only woman cricketer to be "retired out"

The right-handed Sri Lankan wicketkeeper batswoman has represented the island country in 92 ODIs and 54 T20Is and last played a game earlier this year against Pakistan. Dilani Manodara was “retired out” due to her slow scoring rate and her inability to keep the scoreboard ticking and get some momentum in the innings.

The batswoman had scored just 8 runs off 39 balls having spent more than an hour out in the middle and wasn’t looking in any kind of touch what so ever. As a result, she had to retire out.

A retire out is an instance in a cricket match when the batter leaves the field without the permission of the on-field umpires. In such a case, the batsman/batswoman is considered out, for calculating the batting averages and other statistical formalities. The opponent captain usually does not allow the player to resume his/her batting if at all, it boils down to that.

This remains the only instance of a batswoman getting retired out in a recognized international game.
