The former Indian captain was once a celebrated figure in Indian cricket. One of the successful captains to have led the Indian team, Azharuddin captained India in 174 One Day Internationals and won 89 of them.

Azharuddin was also exceptional with the bat and scored a lot of runs in Tests and ODIs. Azhar featured in 334 ODIs in his career and scored 9378 runs.

A stylish middle-order batsman, Azhar played a lot of match-winning knocks for India in One Day Internationals. He scored seven hundreds and 58 fifties at an average of 36.92.

Azharuddin featured in 25 World Cup matches and scored 826 runs at an average of almost 40. Though he scored eight fifties, he never managed to reach 100 in a World Cup game, his highest score being 93.
