The countdown to the next edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup to be held in England will soon begin. With every team looking to build a squad for the most coveted cricketing trophy, India has started its process as well.

Team India currently looks a balanced squad and is shaping up well. There is a great mix of experience and youth in the Indian lineup. However, the management and selectors are still trying a few players in an attempt to find that perfect equilibrium in the squad.

With Indian selectors currently open to giving opportunities to a few players to prove their mantle, here's looking at 5 players who deserve a chance before the tournament.

Suresh Raina

He's been there, done that. The southpaw from Uttar Pradesh has been a proven match winner. A massive contributor to Indian ODI wins over the years, Suresh Raina is a fine batsman, a good occasional offspinner, and a brilliant fielder. Few can forget his invaluable contribution in the quarters and semis at the 2011 World Cup.

He is a player who can take away the game away from the opposition in a jiffy.

Raina has been out of the team for a while owing to his weakness against the shorter ball, but selectors should be backing his experience for him to come good in the limited overs format where there is a limit to the extent of short balls.

His record in England has been good, and a firing Suresh Raina would strengthen India's middle order massively.

Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer- Young and talented

Shreyas Iyer is a very talented young man. With his strokeplay up to the mark, he has already been given a chance to prove himself in the recently concluded series against Srilanka and he did not disappoint, scoring back to back fifties.

Iyer has proved he belongs here. He has a sound technique which could help him score runs under overcast conditions in England. He has also had some great performances in first-class cricket to back him up.

The management should be looking to persist with Iyer in the long run as he is another solid option that can strengthen the middle order.

Dinesh Karthik

Some might argue he has had enough chances already. However, one can not argue the skill and ability of the wicket-keeper batsman from Tamil Nadu. Though he has been inconsistent, he can still be very effective with the bat on his day. He has been with the team on its last two Champions Trophy tours to England.

Dinesh Karthik seems to understand his game much better and is visibly seen growing in confidence in the way he paces his innings. He is also one of the quicker runners between wickets.

Karthik can also be a useful addition to the squad as he can fill in both as a pure batsman and a backup wicketkeeper if required.

Basil Thampi

Basil Thampi- Raw fast pace on offer

India's limited overs bowling attack looks pretty solid with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah leading the pack. However, the addition of a young pacer might be a good gamble to take.

Basil Thampi is young and runs in fast. He is the 4th ever player from the state of Kerala to put on the Indian jersey. He is quick off the wicket, which might suit overseas conditions well. If he is drafted into the squad soon, the coaching staff could spend valuable time with him helping him hone his skills.

Thampi would be a different - and unique - option in team India's bowling arsenal for the management to choose from. He also brings a surprise element, as he has not been exposed as much to international cricket yet.

Vijay Shankar

Vijay Shankar- A new all-round matchwinner on the blocks

When Vijay Shankar hits the ball, it lands in the stands more often than not. This was recently validated when he scored a blistering 33 ball 61 against New Zealand. He has also got some good and accurate pace to go with his batting abilities.

Vijay comes outs to be a player who understands the game situation well and can also be graceful in his gameplay along with being powerful.

Many believe the cricketer from Tamil Nadu is very close to a call-up to the Indian one-day team after his recent inclusion into the test side. This young fast bowling allrounder can be a suitable partner in crime to Hardik Pandya.

Conditions in England often are more favourable to the teams that possess all-rounders in their arsenal who can bowl seam ups. Vijay Shankar does suit the bill perfectly.

Regarded highly by Rahul Dravid, he should probably be on the foresight of the Indian selection Committee and might be given a fair run to prove his abilities before the mega tournament.
