When Sachin Tendulkar scored 10000 runs in the ODI format, he became the first batsman to achieve this feat. In 463 ODI matches, he scored 18426 runs which looked a big mountain for any batsman to get through. Many batsmen crossed had 10000 runs but no one came close to a touching distance of this feat with Kumar Sangakkara stands second in the list with 14,234 runs.

Virat Kohli with his sublime form and consistency looks the likely candidate to overhaul the record of most runs in ODIs. In 211 matches, he has scored 9779 runs at an astounding average of 58.21 and is almost halfway through Sachin's aggregate runs.

Considering his supreme fitness, Kohli has at least 7-8 years of cricket left in him which means he can easily play over 200 ODI matches. If he continues with the same pace, he could cross the landmark of most ODI runs and could also become the first batsman to score 20,000 ODI runs.

Virat's appetite for runs and the consistency level, it is quite possible that he would achieve this historic feat.
