The right-handed opener, who has become one of the mainstays of the Test team, featured in the competition in 2013, playing the warm-up matches. After failing in both those games, he was replaced by Rohit Sharma at the top of the order and that proved to be a masterstroke as he and Shikhar Dhawan, almost single-handedly carried the Indian batting forward.

Vijay has since not featured in the limited-overs scheme of things, but was in contention for a berth in the World Cup squad of 2015, following his impressive showing in Tests against Australia Down Under, but was not picked.

He will hope that sometime in the near future, he will once again be picked in the limited-overs squad and can justice to his potential in that format.
