SK Adda: We asked you if Virat Kohli's decision to not declare sooner was blunder?

The Indian team piled up a formidable lead but ate up precious time in the process

Sportskeeda Adda is where we ask you – the fan, the critic, the loyalist – for your take on cricket. In yesterday’s poll, we asked your take on Virat Kohli’s declaration in the second Test Match at Jamaica.

Did he get it right or was the declaration a blunder?

Over a 100 overs were lost due to rain before Roston Chase played a blinder to save the game for the hosts. With the benefit of hindsight, one felt that Virat Kohli could possibly have declared sooner to provide his bowlers with more time to bowl out the defiant hosts. But 84% of Sportskeeda Cricket readers felt otherwise. To this lot, the skipper was right to have built the lead that he did with an attempt to bury the hosts under the load of a huge lead.

Virat Kohli
Skipper Kohli stuck by his decision and refused to blame his bowlers

Despite the adverse outcome of the strategy, we give Virat Kohli the benefit of doubt on this one. After all, the vast majority of you die-hard fans felt that his declaration wasn’t a blunder after all.

Here are some of your comments that we showcase.

Jobi L Babu “Kohli's decision was correct. We cannot underestimate the power of West indies batting line up. They proved it yesterday”.

Šalih Mohamme “You can't blame Kohli. It was great batting by WI. You have to applaud the opposition when they play well”.

Prince Singh “Over 100 overs, that means more than one day was washed out. You can't criticize Kohli due to this. Also WI played really good in 2nd innings & they deserve applause for that”.

Abhilash Preethy Venkat “Captain Kohli should not be blamed. In hindsight, a declaration seemed appropriate but looking at the three previous West Indian Innings, the outlook was to secure a huge lead and then bowl out the Windies for a paltry total. However, Chase, Dowrich, Blackwood and Holder played beautifully to secure an unlikely draw”.

Agha Jan “Virat can't be blamed. He did the right thing to declare the innings on 500/9 but the fifth day was all about the West Indians and the way they batted and stayed positive”.

Narayanan Krishanan “A similarly decision from the England captain was criticised but England won last week. What was wrong with Virat’s decision?”

Rumit Parikh “It was a good decision. But over 90 overs were washed out so what can Virat do”.

Darsh Shah “With most of day 4 going to rain, India needed more time to bowl out the West Indies”.

Jibin Vb “Virat is just a human and he didn’t have the 6th sense to know that the 4th day will be a complete washout”.
