India leg-spinner Amit Mishra, who is currently enjoying a return to form and a return to the national team in the ongoing series against South Africa, has found himself in trouble with the law. He has been accused of assaulting a woman in Bengaluru when the India team was having a training camp last month.

Details of the alleged incident are yet to be revealed, but it appears that the violence in question took place in a hotel room on September 25, exactly one week before the South Africa series kicked off. The woman filed an FIR on September 27.

It appears also that Mishra had known the woman for a period of three years, and the woman had gone to meet him at the hotel.

The spinner needs to now take time off from national duties, and appear before police within 7 days from today. The 4th ODI is to be played in Chennai on Thursday, and the final ODI is to be played in Mumbai on Sunday – which will give Mishra a little more than 24 hours to present himself if he decides to deal with the affair after the ODI series.

After his return to the team, Mishra has scalped 15 Test wickets in 3 matches, and 3 wickets in the 2 ODIs he has played against South Africa. However, the accusations levelled by the woman at Ashoknagar Police Station has put Mishra on a pitch he might not have anticipated.
