Ashish Nehra makes comeback as a commentator
Star Sports made the announcement about the development.
What’s the story?
Weeks after announcing his retirement from all forms of cricket, Ashish Nehra is all set to make a splash in a new role when he will step into the commentary box for the upcoming India-Sri Lanka series.
Host broadcasters Star Sports made this announcement on their Twitter handle and this has left all cricket fans excited.
Nehra will team up with his former Delhi teammate Virender Sehwag in the commentary box and their camaraderie, which was very evident on the cricket field, is expected to take the commentary box by storm.
Sehwag who has become a Twitter celebrity owing to his tongue-in-cheek tweets responded to this bit of information in his own style.
Nehra had already hinted that he might take up commentary when he was posed this question on the last day of his retirement.
In case you didn’t know…
Nehra's comments have always been taken with a lot of anticipation by people all around the globe and his recent interviews have garnered a lot of appreciation.
Also, with his plethora of experience and analytical skills, he will bring a lot of substance to the Hindi commentary, which can be mundane at times.
Nehra will start his new role during the first Test match between India and Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens on November 16.
He will join other Hindi commentators which will include Aakash Chopra, Kapil Dev, and the rest.
Former cricketers have usually turned their attention to the commentary box after announcing their retirement from active cricket.
Thus, Nehra's decision is not very surprising. Also, the fact that his anecdotes and tonality have reverberated well with the audiences should make this transition easier for the Delhi man.
However, he still has to come to terms with the complexities and modus operandi of live broadcasting.
