Virat Kohli returns to the Indian team after being rested for the series against Sri Lanka

India and Bangladesh will face off in the first match of Asia Cup 2016 at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur in Dhaka on Wednesday. This is the first time that the Asia Cup will be played in a T20 format.

India start the match and the tournament as favourites, but the hosts Bangladesh will come into the game with full of confidence. The Tigers had defeated the more fancied Indian team in an ODI series last year as the Men in Blue struggled to play young left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman.

Team News

India

Captain MS Dhoni’s participation for the match is in serious doubt after he suffered muscle spasm during practice on Monday. Parthiv Patel has been added as back-up in case Dhoni fails his fitness test on Wednesday. Virat Kohli will walk into the team after being rested for the T20I series against Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh

With Imrul Kayes’ poor record in T20Is, where he averages in single digits and has a strike-rate of just over 80, the Mashrafe Mortaza-led side will be tempted to open with Mohammad Mithun.

India vs Bangladesh Teams (Predicted XI)

India XI

Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni (c, wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ashish Nehra, Jasprit Bumrah.

Bangladesh XI

Soumya Sarkar, Mohammad Mithun, Sabbir Rahman, Mahmudullah, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Shakib Al Hasan, Nasir Hossain, Mashrafe Mortaza (c), Arafat Sunny, Mustafizur Rahman, Al-Amin Hossain.

Pitch & Conditions

The pitch at Mirpur, as seen recently in the ICC U-19 World Cup and Asia Cup qualifiers, will assist fast bowlers early on. Batting is expected to be easier later on in the innings. Hence, the teams will be hoping to not lose many wickets up front.

There is a good chance that the game might be affected by rain with the temperature expected to be around 24°C.
