BCCI appoints Rahul Johri as its new CEO

Earlier today, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the appointment of Rahul Johri as the organisation’s new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Mr. Johri had previously worked for Discovery Networks Asia Pacific in the role of an Executive Vice-President and General Manager for the South Asian region.

According to a media release from the Board of Control for Cricket in India, Rahul Johri is set to assume his new office on 1 June 2016. He has over 20 years of experience in the media industry and has been associated with Discovery Networks for a period of 15 years.

The aforementioned media release also stated, “Rahul brings with him immense experience and knowledge on board and will be responsible for the smooth functioning of operations, stakeholder management and building robust strategies for further promoting the sport.”

When asked about his new appointment, Mr. Johri told the press, “I am honoured at the opportunity to serve millions of Indian cricket fans. It will be my utmost endeavor to contribute to the Indian cricket. I am thankful to the President and Honorary Secretary of the BCCI for bestowing such faith in me.”

“I look forward to everyone's support to fulfill this tremendous responsibility,” he added.

BCCI president, Shashank Manohar and the organisation’s secretary, Anurag Thakur have also spoken to the press regarding the appointment of the former Discovery Networks’ Executive Vice-President as the new CEO of the Indian cricket board.

“We are pleased to have Rahul with us and are sure his vast experience and knowledge will benefit the board. His vision, guidance, and support will contribute towards the successful working of the BCCI,” Shashank Manohar told the press.

Anurag Thakur also seemed quite optimistic about BCCI’s new recruitment, “We welcome Rahul aboard and wish him luck for his new role at BCCI. In the past one year, BCCI has undertaken various initiatives aimed towards transforming the working of BCCI in order to make the functioning more robust."

Later, the BCCI secretary added, “This endeavor is another initiative of the board aimed in the same direction and will mark as one more milestone towards strengthening the professional working of the BCCI.”
