BCCI chief N. Srinivasan cited paucity of resources behind the cricket board’s ineffectiveness in regulating the IPL and ridding the game of the recent spot-fixing allegations due to it’s unfeasibility in keeping constant surveillance on the fringe elements of the game, namely the bookies associated with the game.
“We cannot control the bookies involved in the spot-fixing in IPL 6. There are no proper resources available with us to stop the bookies. We can control the players up to some extent but coming to the bookies, there is nothing we can do. While conducting big tournaments like this, we can keep strict rules and regulations for players as well as the organizers”, he said.
He also stated that they are waiting for the report of the inquiry commission, and further action on the players will be taken on the basis of the impending report.
Bulging non-state actors of the game
According to the statistics there are about 28 bookies and 500 sub-bookies in the Tamil Nadu region alone. Not only in Tamil Nadu, there are a huge number of bookies throughout India. Hence it is difficult to stop the bookies.
Certain set of rules are given to all the franchises. According to the rules stated by the BCCI, every franchise should recruit a security officer as well as an anti-corruption officer. The ruling is desired to keep an eye on each and every cricketer and follow there daily routine. If any problem occurs it should be brought to the notice of the franchise as well as the board.
They are also planning to provide identity cards for the agents of the players. The identity card is compulsory for every agent. They are also planning to create some awareness among the players regarding the rules of ACSU.
