BCCI ready to offer Ravi Shastri blank cheque if he stays as director till WC 2015: Reports

Ravi Shastri

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly ready to offer Ravi Shastri a blank cheque if he opts to extend his services as the team director till the 2015 World Cup.

The 52-year-old was recently appointed on an interim basis after the team’s disappointing show, yet again, in overseas conditions, this time a 1-3 Test series loss in England.

As of now, though, the exact details of his payment for the interim role have not been discussed, but the board, the reports say, is willing to reward him, as well.

Shastri, who was in England for his commentary stint with Star Sports, will now oversee the Indian team for the upcoming 5-match England-India One Day International series. It was earlier revealed that Rahul Dravid was the board’s first choice, and, only as he declined, the Board then moved on to Shastri, who readily accepted.

Sanjay Bangar, Bharat Arun and Ramakrishan Sridhar have also been added to the Indian coaching staff, with Duncan Fletcher’s handpicked assistants Joe Dawes and Trevor Penney being sent on a forced leave.
