Today, India has taken the the lead in the five match series against England. No offence, but England were completely outclassed today in every department of the game. But then, there comes another question or a point to make to the Indian fans. The question is, “Why can’t we give the young guns some time to settle down and perform?”
The Indian team has got a plethora of young talented players, brought fresh into the game from the local arena. Sometimes, the fans have no idea about the amount of pressure the Indian players have, because they know that if they don’t perform, they will be blamed for the loss by a billion Indians. That’s something that has brought down the performance of several players. Don’t forget, the media also doesn’t leave any stone unturned when it comes to blaming the players and not being optimistic.
It is often said that Indian fast bowlers have no pace, and are not as well built as the other players from England and South Africa. But has anyone ever thought about the hot and humid conditions in which our players train in comparison to their counterparts. But since the last two games with the coming of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shami Ahmed, suddenly pace goes out of our minds and we start applauding them for their ability to swing. But yes, if they under-perform in the next match, we fans come back to the original accusations.
When it comes to the batsmen, we start blaming them for not negotiating short-pitched deliveries and pace bowlers on bouncing and seaming wickets abroad. But we forget all of it and praise them endlessly when they play well on flat sub-continent pitches.
It’s almost like contradicting yourself. “Oh, India lost to Pakistan recently. So bad, no discipline in our bowling, no technique in batting and lethargic bodies in the fielding,” fans say this, but they forget the 2011 World Cup where Team India emerged victorious, lifting the prestigious cup after a gap of 28 years. A few years back, the people of Ranchi stoned Dhoni’s new house, just because he underperformed in a game, and today they were in the swanky new stadium, applauding Dhoni.
The Indian Cricket fan followers can be described as a lot which oscillates between two extremes.
But we have to understand that the Indian team is undergoing a transition phase; the entire structure of the team is changing. The young talented lads are taking over the reigns and have also started making an impact. So, it’s time we support them and put our entire trust in the team and essentially, be patient!
