Bowlers with more than 300 wickets in ODI wins

NatWest Series - England and Australia
McGrath is the only Australian to have achieved this feat

A bowler's primary objective is to pick wickets and help his side to victories. Since the inception of limited-overs cricket, majority of rules have favored the batting side which made it increasingly difficult for bowlers to pick up wickets.

Picking up 300 wickets is a big achievement but managing to scalp 300 wickets in ODI wins alone is an incredible feat. Several bowlers who have had great starts to their ODI career have faded away. The players who feature in this list, have played for a long time and had the necessary skills to make it big on the international arena.

Let's have a look at the three bowlers who took more than 300 wickets in ODI wins for their respective sides.

#3 Glenn McGrath - 301

Glenn McGrath was one of the chief contributors for Australia's dominance in world cricket in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He represented Australia in 250 ODIs and finished as the highest wicket-taker for his country in ODI cricket with 381 wickets at an average of 22.02.

Australia won 171 of the 250 matches he was part of. During that period, he bowled 8863 deliveries, conceding 5401 runs and picked up 301 wickets at an average of 17.94 including 8 four-wicket hauls and 7 five-wicket hauls.

He is also the highest wicket-taker in World Cup history with 71 wickets and played a crucial role in all three of Australia's World cup wins in 1999, 2003 and 2007.

#2 Wasim Akram - 326

Wasim Akram was one of the greatest fast bowlers Pakistan has ever produced. In fact, he never played first-class cricket, before making his ODI debut. Little did we know that he would become the first bowler in the history of ODI cricket to pick up 500 wickets.

Pakistan won 199 of the 356 ODIs he was part of. During that period, he bowled 9958 deliveries, conceding 6149 runs and picked up 326 wickets at an average of 18.86 including 12 four wicket hauls and 6 five wicket hauls.

He is also the highest wicket-taker for Pakistan in World cups with 55 wickets and was an integral part of the Pakistan side which lifted the 1992 World cup under Imran Khan. Needless to say, Akram and Waqar Younis formed one of the deadliest bowling combination in cricket.

#1 Muttiah Muralitharan - 368

MCC v Rest of the World

Muralitharan was a giant performer for the island nation. His staggering numbers are a testimony to his hard work and passion for the game. At the end of his career, he finished as the leading wicket-taker in ODIs and Tests, with 534 and 800 wickets respectively.

Sri Lanka won 202 of the 350 ODIs he was part of. During that period, he bowled 10,950 deliveries, conceding 6710 runs and picked up 368 wickets at an average of 18.23 including 13 four wicket hauls and 9 five wicket hauls.

He is also the second highest wicket-taker in World Cup history with 68 wickets. Recently, Muralitharan became the first Sri Lankan cricketer to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.
