CA reckons India might play one or 'more' day night Tests in Australia

Earl Eddings, the chairman of Cricket Australia (CA), has dropped hints that India might play two Test matches under lights on their next tour to Australia.

India are scheduled to play a 5-match Test series in Australia in 2021 and Eddings has planned to put forward a proposition to the BCCI hierarchy about one or “more” matches of that series being organized as day-night affairs.

Eddings will be in India at the start of the new year when Australia visit India for a limited-over series and he said he would have a meeting with the newly selected office bearers of the BCCI.

There has been a change in BCCI’s stance regarding day-night Test cricket in the recent times. When CA had requested BCCI to play a day-night Test match in Adelaide last year, the BCCI had refused.

However, since the time Sourav Ganguly has taken over as the BCCI president, he has made it very clear that he is in favor of day-night Test cricket and he has insisted that the Indian captain Virat Kohli is also on the same page.

India played their first ever day night Test match at Eden Gardens against Bangladesh last month and it was a big hit as people turned up in huge numbers especially during the evening session of the game.

Eddings reckons having seen the success of day-night Test cricket first-hand, BCCI would now be open to the idea of playing day-night Test matches in Australia.

“Pleasingly they've played their first day-night Test and won easily. Now they've got through that it might give them the right build-up to it over here. I've got no doubt they'll consider playing one and maybe even more day-night Test matches.” Eddings was quoted saying by ESPNcricinfo.

Australia recently also played a day-night test match against Pakistan in Adelaide which they won convincingly by an innings’ margin.
