Captaincy has never affected my batting, says Sehwag
Delhi Daredevil’s devastating opener Virender Sehwag has said that captaincy and performance are two separate issues. They are completely different and should not be clubbed together. He also said that, captaincy has never affected his batting.
Sehwag, who has scored five-half centuries in a row as skipper is enough to suggest that he’s totally right on his part. It’s actually a recordes as none of the other players have scored consecutively half-centuries. Normally while batting he has never felt the burden as skipper as he plays his natural game. But at times, he has taken the responsibility as captain in hectic run-chase and has won the game for Daredevils single-handedly.
“I don’t think it matters whether I am captaining the side or not. Captaincy has never affected my game. I have never ever felt the pressure on my batting while leading the side. I have never felt any pressure as captain. My approach to batting has always remained the same”.
“I have always maintained that captaincy and performance are two separate issues altogether. If you talk about pressures of captaincy, then I had scored five consecutive half-centuries [a Twenty20 record] during the last edition of the IPL and the highest number of runs for Delhi Daredevils.”
He also talked about Kevin Pietersen’s absence as he would be a key player for Daredevils at the top of the order. Indeed, Daredevils would find it difficult without Kevin Pietersen particularly in heavy run-chases as he can turn the game either way single-handedly.
“KP is a big occasion player and he will certainly be missed but we have other players who can put their hands up and be counted. We have 10 quality foreign players and whoever replaces him in the XI will get an opportunity to make a name for himself on the big stage. If they can grab their chance and prove their worth, we can win the trophy.”
Virender Sehwag is expectingue a good show from the young guys and he wants his side to give their full potential. Daredevils open their campaign against Knight Riders in the inaugural match of IPL – 6 on April 3.
