David Warner’s third-consecutive Test century meant it was another day to forget for New Zealand, as Australia ended day one at 416/2. Warner finished the day unbeaten on 244 and was ably supported by Usman Khawaja’s second Test hundred as the hosts made hay at the WACA after winning the toss. With Trent Boult continuing to look like a shadow of his former self and the rest of the pace attack doing little to trouble Warner and co., skipper Brendon McCullum had to resort to bringing himself and Guptill on to bowl on the first day of the second Test. Here are the best images from the day’s play.

#1 Burns misses out

On a day when Warner and Khawaja boosted their averages, Joe Burns missed out on all the fun as he was bowled by Matt Henry. Rarely does a 40 feel like a duck, but this was one of those days as the pitch offered nothing for the Kiwi bowlers.

#2 Jumping for joy

Records keep on tumbling for David Warner, who become the fourth-fastest Australian to 4,000 Test runs, got his first Test double-hundred and his highest First-class score all on the first day at the WACA.

#3 Comeback king Khawaja

Questions were asked about whether Usman Khawaja was the No.3 that Australia were looking for. But two hundreds in two matches should certainly silence the critics for a while.

#4 Southee regretting his decision?

Ahead of the game, all the talk was about Tim Southee’s race against time to be fit to spearhead the New Zealand attack. After day one, Southee must have regretted his decision to declare himself fit, as he could do nothing to trouble the Aussie batsmen on a docile pitch.

#5 Fans having fun

Test matches aren’t always interesting but the supporters who came into the WACA certainly were treated to a masterclass from Warner. But even that couldn’t stop them from having a bit of fun.

#6 When it\'s not your day

Test cricket can be cruel at times and the Kiwis found that out the hard way. Having wasted their first review early, they lost their second to “umpire’s call”. And when Khawaja edged behind on 38 but was given not out, they had no reviews left. As they say, when it’s not your day, then it really isn’t your day.

#7 Something to celebrate... finally

After a hard day’s work, where there was little to cheer for the Kiwis, Doug Bracewell finally brings a smile to his teammates’ faces by dismissing Usman Khawaja and breaking the 302-run second-wicket partnership.

#8 A new partnership blossoming

Warner and Khawaja might not have played too many matches together for Australia, but they are starting to build an impressive partnership. Their 302-run second-wicket stand was the second-best partnership at the WACA.

#9 All in a day\'s work

Sometimes the scoreboard tells a better story than any words can. This is a perfect example.

#10 Well-earned respect

Sometimes, when you are witnessing a great innings, there is nothing to do but applaud and appreciate the player in question. The Kiwis showing how.
