Devendra Bishoo injury adds to West Indies' dreadful tour

Devendra Bishoo of the West Indies warms up during a West Indies training session

West Indies suffered a huge blow as Devendra Bishoo, the leg spinner, has suffered a shoulder injury as stated by IBNLive. West Indies is already having a dreadful tour against the Aussies.

Devendra Bishoo, an East-Indian by origin, made his debut for the West Indies in the 2011 Cricket World Cup. As reported, Bishoo fell during the practice session and was immediately sent to the hospital for scans.

Bishoo was in contention to get selected in the playing eleven but the team officials are now concerned that he might have damaged his rotator cuff, thus leading problems to for the Indies.

The leg-spinner showed good character earlier this year against the Australians when he took 6 wickets and gave 80 runs in the Dominica Test, but since then has failed to impress. He had a bad run against the Sri Lankans and as a result of which he was not selected for the Boxing Day test.

He displayed weak bowling figures against an under rated Australian side in the warm up game as he took only 1 wicket and more recently grabbed only 2 wickets in a match against Victorian XI. As a leading leg spinner, you would expect the bowler to perform well and support the team, but lately, Bishoo has been more of a weak link in the team.

Devendra Bishoo was not selected in the first match at Hobart when left-armer Jomel Warrican was given preference over him and the same was experienced by Bishoo in the second test underway right now as the all-rounder Carlos Braithwaite was given his first international cap. Bishoo’s bad run has just worsened with a serious injury now.

Bishoo has played 15 test matches and has 55 wickets to his name. His style of bowling came mainly in picture during the 2010 Caribbean T20, his attacking style of bowling helped him gain his international debut both in the longer and the shorter formats in 2011.

Australia are cruising with centuries from Usman Khawaja and Joe Burns as they helped the team to a total of 345/3 after stumps at day 1 of the Boxing Day test match. With Bishoo’s injury, West Indies problems in this tour have only aggravated.
