Five unforgivable cricketing errors which should never be committed

With the different formats cramping up the schedule for players in the current day and age, there are bound to be mistakes creeping in. Perhaps this is why the players need to get their mind sorted and always in tune with what is going on as even a small mistake might prove to be costly for their teams.

However, having said this, there are few errors which should never be committed on the field, ones that are unpardonable.

Here in this slider, we take a look at five such mistakes which should always be avoided:

#5 Not grounding the bat after crossing the crease

Although the recent ICC rulings allow the batsmen to bounce their bats after they have crossed the crease, at the same time, it makes grounding the bat even more important.

There have been instances in the past where we have seen the batsmen plonking their bat over the line instead of dragging it in, and, in the process, they surrender their wickets.

#4 Shy at the stumps when the batsmen are well in

Ball can ricochet off the stumps
The ball can hit the stumps and roll toward the boundary for extra runs

For some reason, the fielders today are always keen to pick up the ball and have a shy at the stumps, irrespective of whether the batsman is in his crease or not.

Often, in this exuberance, the fielders throw down the stumps and then the ball ricochets off them and scoots across for easy runs for the batting side, which, at the end of the game, might well be the difference between the sides.

#3 Umpiring mistakes by the third umpire

Third umpire should always be careful with his decisions
Unpardonable!

There is a reason why technology was introduced in the game; it was aimed at shunting out flaws and human errors.

However, when the third umpires commit mistakes despite having the advantage of technology, it becomes problematic and unpardonable.

Often, these mistakes prove to be defining moments in the match and thus the officials should be more vigilant in order to keep a level playing field.

#2 On-field umpire failing to spot a no ball

Yes, the job of an umpire is a tough one and in many ways, it is also a thankless one. If the umpires are being discussed at the end of the game it means they have had a pretty ordinary performance.

In the recent past, we have seen plenty of instances when the on-field umpire has failed to spot a bowler overstepping.

While this takes away a bonus run from the batting side, it also prevents them from availing a free hit which has become so crucial in the modern game.

#1 Spinner overstepping

Spinners should never bowl a no ball

A bowler running in and then overstepping is an error, more so if the bowler is a spinner who trundles in from a short distance.

This is a cardinal sin, one that should be avoided at all costs, because coming off a short run-up gives you enough leeway to ensure you do not push the boundaries. Hence, spinners should always be aware of the crease and make sure their foot never strays beyond it.
