Gibbs joins Caribbean Premier League

Herschelle Gibbs has signed for the Caribbean Premier League that starts on July 26 in the West Indies. Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist and Mohammad Hafeez are the other big stars to have joined the inaugural Caribbean Premier League. Six West Indies batsmen have also confirmed their date for the CPL – Bravo, Chris Gayle, Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard, Darren Sammy and Samuels.

Gibbs was the first batsman to hit six sixes in an over against Netherlands in the 2007 World Cup in international cricket. He has also been part of the Australia’s Big Bash League and played for Perth Scorchers. Gibbs has been the key protagonist for Perth Scorchers at the top of the order and would look to replicate the same in the Caribbean Premier League.

“I am really looking forward to playing in the first CPL. I love the Caribbean and have great memories of touring there,” Gibbs said in a press release from the organisers. “Many of the West Indies players have become my friends over the years and playing alongside them in their home countries will really be special.”

Gibbs has played 90 Tests, 248 ODI’s and 23 T20’s for South Africa. Gibbs holds the record of registering maximum number of centuries in One Day internationals for South Africa as 21 of his 35 centuries came in ODI’s.
