#4 Chris Gayle’s sluggish knock

ICC World XI v West Indies - T20
Chris Gayle has looked out of sorts and woefully out of form in recent times

Chris Gayle has looked out of sorts and woefully out of form in recent times. After his hundred in the early part of the IPL, he’s found it tough to get going.

In the three innings he’s played in this tournament (before this game), he made just 21 runs in three innings. He looked scratchy in almost every innings.

However, Gayle scored a half-century as he hit 63 in VCK’s innings of 175. But it was a knock that wasn’t the most fluent.

He scratched around and didn’t quite look all that fluent at the crease. He started off by scoring just one off 10 deliveries but then he got a few out of the screws and reached 27 in 20 balls at the end of the powerplay.

Then came another lull when he just wasn’t able to find the boundary and his strike-rate went below 100 as he got to 37 off 39.

And then once again, he hit a good phase as he scored 22 runs off his next 10 balls before finally getting dismissed for a scratchy, sluggish 63 off 55 balls (which included five fours and four sixes).
