How India could line up for the third T20I against Sri Lanka

India will be itching to test their bench after clamming the series
India may be itching to test their bench strength after securing the series

India continued their dominance over Sri Lanka, winning the second T20I comprehensively by 88 runs. Riding on Rohit Sharma's mind-boggling century, India posted a daunting score of 260 for 5 in 20 overs.

Sri Lanka failed to keep up with the required run-rate, and crumbled like a pack of cards. India have already won the T20I series and hence may ring the changes for the third game.

Here is the probable XI for Team India.

Top-order

#1 Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma has been devastating at the top

Rohit continued his destructive form and played a blazing knock of 118 runs in 42 deliveries. He has been in great touch this year, and has really led well from the front.

Rohit was proactive with his field settings and constantly backed the bowlers, even when they were going for plenty of runs. He would like to continue his scintillating form, and complete the whitewash of the Lankans.

#2 Lokesh Rahul

Rahul has been consistent in this series, scoring two half-centuries in two matches. He has looked determined right from the start, making the most of his opportunities. He has been cautious in his approach, and has waited for the bad balls to score off.

#3 Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iter has looked in good form right through the series, and would like to finish the series on a high. He has done pretty well in the absence of Virat Kohli, and would be itching to fulfil his potential. After seeing a glimpse of Shreyas Iyer's raw talent in ODIs, the team management would be more than happy to continue with him at no 3.

Middle-order

Ent
Dhoni has been in great nick

#4 MS Dhoni

Dhoni has looked a class apart not only with his lightning keeping skills, but also with his batting. Dhoni has performed really well with the bat after being criticized for his performances in the recent T20I series against New Zealand. He has looked in vintage form in this series at no. 4, scoring 39 and 28 runs with an overall strike rate of 159.

Apart from his batting, he was at his best behind the stumps, with 4 stumpings and 2 catches in the two matches.

#5 Deepak Hooda

Dinesh Karthik has hardly got a chance to bat in this series. With India's top order in good form, it would be wise to drop Karthik and replace him with Deepak Hooda. Hooda can be effective with both bat and ball. He is a good striker of the ball, and can also be handy with his off-spin bowling.

#6 Manish Pandey

Manish Pandey made the most of his opportunity in the first game and scored a sublime 32 off 18 balls. He did not get to bat in the second match, and would like to have more runs under his belt before heading overseas.

#7 Washington Sundar

Hardik Pandya has done relatively well in the bowling department, after looking off-color in the ODI series. He has picked up 4 wickets overall, looking in total control with his line and length. In the batting department, he has not gotten enough opportunities. With the series victory already in the bag, Hardik might be rested in the next match, as he may be an integral part of the Test team that will head to South Africa.

Washington Sundar is the ideal replacement with his all-round abilities.

Kuldeep Yadav is likely to retain his place in the side

#8 Kuldeep Yadav

Kuldeep Yadav has been outstanding in the series, picking up 5 wickets at an average of 14. He is not afraid to flight the ball, and bowls attacking lines rather than just looking to stem the flow of runs.

#9 Yuzvendra Chahal

Chahal has looked impressive in the T20I series with consecutive four-wicket hauls in two matches. He has been the pick of the bowlers for India, delivering under pressure. Though he was expensive in the second match, he ended up picking 4 crucial wickets which broke the back of the Sri Lankans. Considering Sri Lanka's struggle against wrist spinners, Chahal would love to add more wickets to his tally.

#10 Mohammed Siraj

Jaydev Unadkat could make way for Mohammed Siraj for the final game of the series, as the team management would be eager to give him one more opportunity. Siraj has done really well at the domestic level and also in the IPL and his performances deserve to be rewarded.

#11 Basil Thampi

Jasprit Bumrah's performances have been mediocre in this series by his lofty standards, having failed to pick a single wicket. Keeping the South Africa series in mind, India would like to rest Bumrah and keep him fresh. Basil Thampi could debut for India in the next match, a just reward for his consistent performances in the domestic circuit and the IPL.
