ICC World Cup 2015: India vs West Indies - Player ratings

West Indies players celebrating after taking Kohli’s wicket

West Indies

Chris Gayle – 3/10

Literally threw his wicket away after swinging his bat at almost every delivery. Was also responsible for the run out that claimed Marlon Samuels’ wicket. He is yet to show is worth against teams slightly better than Zimbabwe.

Dwayne Smith – 4/10

Broke the partnership of MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina at the right time with the ball in hand. However, while batting, rotated the strike very little and eventually lost his wicket after scoring just 6.

Marlon Samuels – 4/10

Was run out after being involved in a mix up with Chris Gayle. In the field, he held on to two good catches and bowled three tight overs.

Jonathan Carter – 5/10

Eventually, Carter’s 21 runs mattered a lot to the West Indies. He seemed settled for most of his time at the crease but fell to a needless sweep shot against Ashwin.

Denesh Ramdin – 4/10

Kept tidily behind the stumps, especially considering WACA’s steep bounce. But played the most unneeded shot of the match to get himself dismissed first ball. Has to work on his temperament in order to succeed against quality sides.

Lendl Simmons – 3/10

A lot was expected out of him when it came to stabilizing the innings. Attempted a hook out of nowhere and top edged one to long leg. In the larger scheme of things, cost his team the match.

Darren Sammy – 5/10

Although he didn’t get a bowl, Sammy did a good job in getting West Indies those additional runs towards the end of the innings. He stiched a useful partnership with the captain Jason Holder.

Andre Russell – 5/10

Got rid of the hugely talented Virat Kohli, and pegged India back by dismissing Jadeja towards the end. While batting, gave his wicket away while attempting an ambitious shot.

Jason Holder – 8/10

The star of the West Indies line-up, Holder was responsible for worsening the economy rates of the Indian bowlers towards the end of the first innings. He scored a quickfire 50-odd and took his team to 182 from what was looking like a 130 score. Made some amateur errors while captaining, like holding his best bowlers back. But overall, a good performance.

Jerome Taylor – 8/10

Bowled with menacing pace and bounce, created a lot of trouble for the Indian batsmen. It’s a pity that he didn’t get another shot at bowling to the Indian tail. Held his ground and assisted his captain with some handy runs towards the end.

Kemar Roach – 5/10

Was slightly expensive on the given day, but claimed the wicket of Ajinkya Rahane. Was erratic with the line at times.
