Dhaka, April 3 (IANS/CMC) The West Indies women’s team missed out on a spot in the final of the Twenty20 World Cup when they went down by eight runs to defending champions Australia in the first semi-final here on Thursday.

Chasing 141 for victory, the Caribbean side ended on 132 for four from their 20 overs, with Deandra Dottin top scoring with 40 and Stacy-Ann King remaining not out at 36, reports CMC.

Requiring 14 runs off the last over to win the game at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium, the West Indies could only manage six runs, while losing the wicket of their captain Merissa Aguilleira for six.

The West Indies have now fallen at the semi-final stage of the tournament for the third successive T20 World Cup.

Earlier, Australia notched up 140 for five, with opener Elyse Villani hitting 35 and Alyssa Healy an unbeaten 30.
