Youngster Haseeb Hameed caught the attention of the entire cricket world due to his patient and witty batting performances against India in the recently concluded Mohali Test. And leading English batsman Joe Root has advised the Hameed not to be complacent and rest on his laurels, rather he should keep improving.

His impressive show drawn the attention of Indian skipper Virat Kohli to such extent that they were spotted having a chat soon after the match ended. Unfortunately, he is likely to miss the last two matches due to an injury on his little finger and will board the flight to England for an operation.

As per the reports of ESPNCricinfo, Joe Root said, "The only advice I gave was, make sure you don't go back to county cricket at the start of the summer and rest on your laurels.”

"It's an opportunity to prove to everyone in county cricket that you are there for a reason. You have opportunities to make some really big scores, to keep learning and to keep improving. He has the opportunity to put the good work he has done in India into his game and continue to develop the way he has done,” added Root.

India is currently poised comfortably, riding on a 2-0 lead in the 5-match test series against visitors England with two encounters left. The last time England visited India in 2012/13, they performed brilliantly having won the series 2-1, mainly due to instrumental batting and bowling displays from players like Graeme Swann, Monty Panesar, and Kevin Pietersen. But, none of those stalwarts is featuring this tour except for Alastair Cook.

Joe Root also lauded young Hameed for his courage and commitment towards his game as he played a calm and composed innings with a broken finger. "The way he played with a broken hand the other day was remarkable. For such a young lad to show composure, to manipulate the strike and also hit some of the best spinners in the world for boundaries was very, very impressive,” said Root.

The fourth test starts on December 8 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, so the England side still has a few days to get things and plan for an improved show for the rest of the series.
