India entered the match with revenge on their mind, but it wasn’t to be as Pakistan again emerged victorious albeit with an even bigger margin. On a flat deck, Pakistan decided to bat first and posted a mammoth 302 on the board. Mohammad Yousuf and Shoaib Malik made a 206-run stand in the middle to help Pakistan reach a formidable total.

Malik was the highest scorer as he made a delightful century and ended his evening on 128. Yousuf supported him well and played a workmanlike knock of 87. Indian spinners were punished by the Pakistani batsmen as Yusuf Pathan and Harbhajan Singh went for 127 runs in 20 overs and took just two wickets. Ashish Nehra took four scalps but like every other Indian bowler, proved to be a tad costly.

India started their batting on the worst possible note as Sachin Tendulkar was dismissed very early. India's middle order helped them resurrect their innings as Gautam Gambhir, Rahul Dravid and Suresh Raina looked to guide India home. But timely wickets by Pakistan nipped India's chances in the bud as they were bundled out for 248 and were eventually defeated by 54 runs.

The match was in the balance till the 40th over of India's innings but recklessness cost them a famous victory against their eternal rivals.
