ICC World Cup 2019: Which players are going to be India’s biggest assets at the showpiece event?

Team India’s recent performances have been nothing less than phenomenal. With skipper Virat Kohli making a clean sweep of the top 5 honors at the 2018 ICC Cricket Awards, many fans and even cricketing pundits now believe this is the best chance for Kohli and his men to repeat the feat of 1983, when India lifted the Prudential World Cup in England.

Although the World Cup 2019 squad is yet to be announced, India is not likely to tinker with five of its biggest assets. Here is a look at those:

1. Rohit 'Run Machine' Sharma

Lightning doesn’t strike twice. But in this edition of the World Cup, if Rohit Sharma’s obsession with double centuries continues, we may very well witness the 4th or even the fifth double hundred coming from the blade of the Indian vice-captain.

Also known as the ‘Hit-man’ in cricketing circles, Rohit is easily going into the tournament as one of the world’s most threatening batsmen.

2. Virat 'King' Kohli

The slogan of the 90s, ‘Cricket is our religion, Sachin is our God’ probably needs to be rewritten with Kohli as the new entity.

All the records held by the Little Master appear minuscule now when Kohli is in his prime. Having an undisputed ‘king of the game’ to lead the side, the morale of the entire Indian team is definitely going to get a massive boost.

3. MS Dhoni

The cricket world is yet to find a brighter cricketing brain than MS Dhoni. The great AB De Villiers once said, ‘MS Dhoni would be a permanent fixture in my team even when he is 80 years old or in a wheelchair.’

Blessed with an unreal level of match awareness, Dhoni can also be termed as the unofficial captain who would be mentoring Virat Kohli with his masterful strategies at all times.

4. 'KulCha' - Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal

The induction of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal into the limited overs format has been a game-changer for the Indian team. The duo wreaked havoc in South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand, thus stamping their authority as world-class wrist spinners.

Going into the World Cup as India’s biggest lethal weapon, the duo of KulCha can easily seal an early semi-final berth for India.

5. Jasprit Bumrah

Arguably the best limited overs fast bowler of the current era, Jasprit Bumrah had a sensational 2018 to add even more weight to his credentials. With his awkward sling arm action, extra swing, and varieties - be it the slower ones or the toe-crushing yorkers, Bumrah can be deceptively dangerous in England.

Given ample amount of rest before the World Cup 2019, he is definitely going to be one of India’s trump cards.
