India team selection for Australia Tests and last two ODIs against Sri Lanka postponed

Team India in England 2014

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have issued a press release informing that the team selection for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia has been postponed. The BCCI has also stated that the squad selection for the last two matches of the ongoing series against Sri Lanka is also postponed.

The selection committee under Sanjay Patil was expected to pick a side for the Australian tour and also the 2 ODIs on Tuesday. With India not doing well in their last overseas assignment in England, the selectors now have a more difficult task at hand.

Former captain Rahul Dravid stated earlier that India will need six batsman down under. The legendary cricketer wants Karn Sharma to replace Ravindra Jadeja in the playing XI and India returning to their 4-bowler strategy. Dravid also feels that Gautam Gambhir might miss out on his place in the side after a couple of disappointing Tests in England.

Furthermore, the former great picked Karnataka’s in-form batsman Lokesh Rahul as the third opener to tour Australia.

With the reason for the sudden postponement of team selection still unknown, it can be expected that the BCCI will soon announce the date for the next meeting.
