India had to face a lot of criticism after a dismal performance by the their middle-order in the previous game. Surprisingly, the experienced Ajinkya Rahane was also dropped from the playing XI for this match too.

Unfazed by the criticism, the team management persisted with the same middle-order. Shreyas Iyer, who had scored just nine runs in the opening match, got another chance to bat when Dhawan was dismissed.

Shreyas made full use of the opportunity and played a blazing knock of 88 runs from 70 balls inclusive of nine fours and two towering sixes. He played positively right from the start and continued his tempo throughout the innings. His partnership of 213 runs for the second wicket with Rohit dented Sri Lanka's hopes.
