Indian Cricket players salaries: Highest paid cricketers in 2016

Team India players after their win against England in the 2013 Champions Trophy Final

On November 2015 BCCI announced the player retainer fee and central contracts which would be renewed again in November this year. According to the list, only 4 players are kept in the elite category A in the central contracts where they will be paid Rs. 1 crore per year plus the additional fees they will earn for every appearance they make in an international match.

How do the central contracts work?

The players are split into three categories A, B and C and are included in one of those three categories based on their experience and past one year’s performance. The contract is valid up to a year and any player making debut in that period is given a Grade C contract. The salary is handed over to the players on the basis of their categories.

Retainer Fee

This is the guaranteed yearly income of Indian cricketers according to their central contract categories. While a player from Grade A receives Rs.1 crore annually, players from Grade B and C receives Rs. 50 lakh and Rs. 25 lakh respectively.

Match Fee

Match fees are the same across all categories. Rs. 5 lakh for every Test match, Rs. 3 lakh for every one day international and Rs. 1.50 lakh for every T20 match.

Individual bonuses

Players are given individual performance bonuses if they achieve an individual landmark while playing for his country. Rs. 5 lakh is given for scoring a century in Test or ODI, Rs. 7 lakh for a double century in Tests or ODIs, Rs. 5 lakh for a five-wicket haul in Tests, ODIs or T20s and Rs. 7 lakh for taking a 10 wicket haul in a Test match.

Team bonuses

If India wins a Test against any top 3 sides, match fees for every individual is increased by 50% and it goes to 100% when they win a Test series against the same. For winning a 50 overs World Cup or a T20 World Cup the bonus increases by 300% of the match fee.
