Madan Lal: Another reliable all-rounder in the team, Madan Lal's starry first-class career gave him an entry into the international scene in 1974. He was one of the 1983 World Cup final heroes, scalping three big wickets - Vivian Richards, Desmond Haynes and Larry Gomes. He picked 17 wickets playing eight games in the tournament at an economy of 3.43.

After retirement, he coached the Indian national cricket team in 1996 and was also one of the members of the Selection Committee for a year in 2000.

Sandeep Patil: The elegant middle-order batsman made his entry into the international scene in 1980 in Chennai against Pakistan. He proved his batting prowess in the World Cup, striking a match-winning 51 in 32 balls during the semi-final against England. His contribution of 27 in 29 balls with the willow during the final has also been much appreciated.

He also had a glitzy first-class career playing for Mumbai and was later given the chance to captain Madhya Pradesh, where he briefly enjoyed success. After retiring, he served as the coach of the India A team, before taking charge of the Kenya national team. With Patil as the head coach, the minnows stormed into the semi-final of the 2003 World Cup. He also tried his luck in a couple of Marathi films and also served as the editor of a regional sports magazine.

Balwinder Sandhu: The Mumbai-born medium pacer has been not just an adept bowler, but has also been an efficient tail-ender by significantly contributing in times of need. During the World Cup final, he put on a 22-run partnership with Kirmani, and he later bowled the Caribbean opener Gordon Greenidge out with a deadly inswinger .

Though he had an illustrious stint in the World Cup, his international Test career came to a halt the same year. Sandhu was associated with the controversial Indian Cricket League (ICL) for a while and later served as the coach of the Mumbai and Punjab cricket teams.

Yashpal Sharma: Being the ideal middle-order batsman who always came to the team's rescue in times of need, Yashpal Sharma's 1983 World Cup heroics have been one of his best till date. The right-hander amassed 240 runs in eight matches, slamming two half-centuries, both in a winning cause.

However, post the tournament, a lapse in his form kept him away from the international scene and he played his last ODI for India in 1985. He turned to umpiring for a few years after retirement and also served as the national team selector.

Krishnamachari Srikkanth:The highest run-scorer in the final, Srikkanth, opened the batting with Gavaskar and made 38 runs, putting on a 57-run stand with Amarnath. The stylish cricketer rifled bowling attacks and was handed over the captaincy during the Pakistan tour in 1989. In 1988, he achieved the feat of becoming the only Indian to score a half-century and clinch a five-wicket haul in a match against New Zealand.

After retiring from international cricket in 1992 after playing 146 ODIs and 43 tests, he continued his association with the game, serving as a commentator, a coach and a broadcaster.
