In the first ever edition of the tournament, India squared off against Australia in the quarterfinal stage of the competition.
Sachin Tendulkar stood up to the occasion, smashing a fluent 141 and aided by contributions from Rahul Dravid and Ajay Jadeja, The Men in Blue posted a competitive 307 for 8 in their 50 overs.
Then with the ball, led once again by Tendulkar, who took a four-wicket haul and Javagal Srinath, who picked up 2 wickets, India bowled Australia out for 263 runs, winning the game by 44 runs and booking their place in the semifinal stage of the competition.
