Season 9 of the Indian Premier League has been an eventful one with plenty records being broken and new records set. With just eight games remaining in the league stage, six teams are fighting for the top four slots. Sunrisers Hyderabad have almost secured their position in the top-two while Pune and Punjab are mathematically out of the tournament, with just 3 and 4 wins respectively.
The highest run-scorer in this season so far is the Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper, Virat Kohli, who has scored 752 runs, with minimum two games remaining (if RCB does not qualify). The opening batsman has already broken the record for maximum runs scored by an individual in a single season of the IPL, surpassing Gayle’s 733 in 2012.
In 2013, Michael Hussey equalled Gayle’s record of 733 runs, for Chennai Super Kings, which was previously the highest runs scored in a season. He took 17 innings to get to the score, as compared to Gayle’s 14 innings.

Kohli has been in an exhilarating form in 2016, starting from India’s tour of Australia earlier this year, followed by the T20 World Cup, and his consistency continues even for RCB in this IPL. Even at times when other players have struggled to score runs, Kohli has done it with ease.
He has an exceptional talent to score big while still playing orthodox cricketing shots. His ability to clear boundaries at will in the death overs is one of the main reasons why he is considered as one of the biggest entertainers of the game.
The Indian Test Captain has already scored 1377 T20 runs in 24 innings in 2016, and we are only half-way down the year. Kohli has a great chance of setting yet another record of scoring 1000 runs in an IPL if RCB happen to reach the playoffs.
Kohli has scored a staggering 752 runs in just 12 innings, including three centuries and five fifty-plus scores, striking at 148.03 and averaging 83.55. AB de Villiers is the next contender for the Orange cap, with 597 runs, closely followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Captain, David Warner who has scored 567 runs, also in 12 innings.
